Here is a list of the cheaper transmitterand receiver options, and some info to get you started with your search for a TX and RX. The first 2 lists are the best choices because you know everything will work together as they are complete packages. After that, mixing and matching from lists 3 and 4 may or may not be compatible. Some research on your part would need to be done. All lists are in link format so you know what to do, copy and paste them in to a new tab.
My #1 recommendation is a completepackage, and the cheapest I was able to find it is at the following link, http://www.hobbypartz.com/exrc62tr.html This option is the most expensive in the list (but costs less then ¼ of the price mine did atonly $45.00 compared to $200.00 for the DX6i). The transmitter also works as an RC flight simulator PC controller, and it comes with the USB cable to make it happen. It?s highly recommended that any beginner to the RC aircraft hobby start with an RC flight simulator. I am thinking of getting this one for my self as the receivers for my transmitter are at least $50.00 a piece, and additional receivers for this system are only $14.95 and can be found at the following link http://www.hobbypartz.com/2exrcre.html.HobbyPartz is offering $4.95 for shipping, so they have it at the cheapest price and with the cheapest shipping, but there is plenty here to research and you can make up your own mind.
72 MHz receivers come in 3 types, AM PPM, FMPPM and FM PCM. The PPM receivers are not brand specific, but the PCM receivers are. In 72 MHz there is also something called shift, which has to do with how the signal is encoded. You have to match the shift. One shift is not better than the other, they are just different. For example JR and Airtronics are positive shift, and Hitec and Futaba are negative shift.
